Questions about aging and scavenging

Ok, I've done some research and would like to enable
record scavenging on our DNS servers. But I have a couple
of questions.

I'm worried that many of our records have very old
timestamps. Some over 6 months old. Does the server not
update the timestamps when scavenging isn't enabled? Will
the server perform a scavenging sweep right away? Or will
it wait until the end of it's set interval? I'm thinking
that if it does a sweep right away, it will remove most of
our records, causing some issues for our desktop users.
But if it waits to the end of the interval (7days), then
we should pretty much be ok.

I've also seen some notes online about "aging all
records". Is this only available through the Resource Kit?
Or can I do it some other way? That seems like it would
solve my problem.

Thanks a bunch!

Ok, the search button is my friend. :-)

I did a search, and came up with a post by someone that
included the link http://support.microsoft.com/?id=296116
which answered all of my questions.

Thanks!

There you go. I was ready to post that link for you...

Hello All,

Keep in mind that DNS scavenging is a low priority thread. IF the server
is busy at the time a scavenging attempt is initiated, only some or even
none of the records will be pugred.
