Hello All:

This is probably a stupid question but....if I type www.whatever.com
into my browser, it sits there. I must use http://www.whatever.com
for it to load. What setting controls this. Thanks

From Mike Burgess.

Verify the following entries are correct in the Registry:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

Just started having this problem today. When typing an
address into the address bar, if I do not use
the "http://" prefix before the address it now takes
almost five minutes to load the page where as before it
loaded immediately. If I do type in the "http://" prefix
the page will load normally. My registry settings are as
follows:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\URL\DefaultPre
fix]
@="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVers
ion\URL\Prefixes]

"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"
