My question bascially is- how do I find out what my
product key is. The reason I am asking for this is
because I have been trying update my windows through
microsoft and for some reason I keep getting a message
saying that my product key is invalid. Now,when I bought
this computer it was from a gentleman that builds
computers in his retirement and sells them at a low cost.
I bought this computer about 6 months ago and with it
came windows XP pro. How can I find these codes there
talking about and what can I do about the upgrade
situation. Thank you in advance for your replys.

If it came at a very (unlikely) low cost, then probably this gentleman has
been using an XP Pro version with an illegal corporate product key, which
prevents you from using any updates and/or installing service pack 1 for XP.
To find out which product key you have, follow the advice of Jupiter Jones
in his reply to the message "XP activation code lost". If you have an
illegal serial, you may want to purchase a legal version of XP. Probably
then you should consider XP Home edition as it's cheaper and more suitable
for home users. Good luck!
