Question regarding SuperATA (SATA)

I'm seriously ready to upgrade my current PC to a far faster system.

Been looking at the 3.0GHz P4 w/ 800MHz FSB.

Most of the motherboards I've looked at support SATA only, not the "old"
Parallel IDE....

My question...

What exactly is SuperATA? Will I be able to connect my existing DVD-RW drive and
my other CD-ROM Drives (using ATA cables) on it? or is there an adatper I would
need to purchase? or would I be in need of a PCI IDE Controller...?

For my hard drives, I'm running a RAID configuration using a separate PCI RAID
controller, but you can't connect ATAPI devices to it.

Misguided conception :) They, all, support 'legacy' PATA.

It's 'Serial' ATA. Just a different interface.

Dunno what you're asking, on that one.
 
There is nothing that I know about that is called SuperATA.
If anything, is a marketing ploy by someone to confuse people
who really are looking to buy SerialATA.
 
All boards with SATA that I've seen have regular IDE ports also, which
are required for CDs, DVDs etc. You are correct that the RAID cards
don't
support CDs etc.

SATA CAN REACH TRANSFERE SPEEDS OF UPTO 166MHZ
