Question on XP usage

If I buy a new system (OEM) that is bundled with XP but need to run linux on
the new system, can I uninstall XP from the new system and put that copy on
an older machine? I would assume that the new copy of XP hasn't been
activated. I would reformat the disk on both the old an new machines before
any installs. Is this legal with XP, as long as I only want it on one
machine?

Is there any prohibition of loading XP on a different machine than the one
it came on? I want to be sure before I buy.

OEM copies of Windows (any version) are tied to the first system that they
are installed on. Although the software may not be used at all on the
computer it has still been "installed". The OEM version is probably locked
so that it will only work on the manufacturer's computers (e.g. a Dell OEM
CD will only work on the DELL PC it was sold with.)
