Hi,

I have seen several posts on UNC to place BE folder away from view of
others but i still dont understand the steps involved??

vol2 on sac2(E:) this is the location or name of the network drive
E:\GROUPS\FINAN\ACCTSDB this is what i get when clicking properties for the
BE database in the folder.

Can you give me some direction on how i would proceed with above info to
create a UNC path?

The folder name "E:\groups\..." is a temporary "mapping" or alias for
a folder that exists on your server, and is specific to the particular
computer that is accessing it. It could just as easily be "mapped" as
"G:\groups\..." from a different network computer.

On the other hand, the UNC name "\\servername\sharename\Groups\..." is
a permanent name for that network resource. It will be identical for
every computer that can "see" that resource.

Using the Linked Table Manager, simply relink the FrontEnd database to
the BackEnd database. But this time, instead of selecting the MDB file
that you see in E:\Groups\..., choose the MDB file that you can see by
navigating throught Network Places in the FileOpen dialog box. It is
the same file, but access via a different route. You will need to
drill down through a few layers before you reach the location that is
mapped to E:\Groups\... In your case, you will need to drill down thru
sac2, then to vol2 where you should see the Groups folder.

Use the same technique for a new database: File > Get External Data >
Link Tables, then drill down thru Network Places instead of using the
mapped drive.
