Question on Multiple DSL Users

I guess this is kind of a IE questions. Didn't know where else to post it.
I have two computers using WinXP Home and have them networked using a DLink
Router and DSL (connecting at about 1.2mgs). My question is: When both
computers are connected to the Internet at the same time using IE does it
slow down both computers. Example: If I am playing a game on the MS Game
Zone and my wife is surfing the web looking at cooking recipes, does that
fact the she is using I.E. and surfing the internet have any effect on my
game playing (i.e. slowing down my connection)? I know very little about
DSL, Routers, Networks, etc. as you can see. Thanks for the help. Mac
