I want to buy a new PC, buit up from scratch from a company, and I want to
know if it would be possible to put my current hard drive into the new PC?
Would this cause any problems? I realise I would need to install the new
drivers for my motherboard.

But can this work? Would I need to do anything else apart from install my
new motherboard's drivers?

Should be fine, particularly if you dont go for a very small case system.
I realise I would need to install the new drivers for my motherboard.

Normally you dont need to.

Yes.

Would I need to do anything else apart from install my new motherboard's drivers?

You dont normally need to do even that with an IDE/ATA
drive, what is most likely what the old drive is.

Just make sure its jumpered properly.

Some new systems only have a single IDE/ATA port now
and that will likely have the DVD drive on it, but thats no
big deal even if there is only one port, tho you may need
to get another ribbon cable with two drive connectors.

Normally you dont need to.

The person will have to install new drivers.
You are a clueless jackass.

Wrong, as always, when a drive is added to an existing system.

There seems to be a problem with reading comprehension or you were
blessed with the attention span of a Chimpanzee.

Please take a couple decades to digest this simple question:
The same Motherboard is required if an existing drive is to be utilized
in a newer system or the only other choice is to slave the disk and use
it as storage, little child.

That appears to be what he wants to do, ****wit child.

If you installed your old harddrive in the new computer, that obviously has
a different motherboard, then you would HAVE to reformat the harddrive and
do a fresh install of the OS due to the differences between the motherboards
and their chipsets.

Then why does he even bother to mention installing drivers if it's only
going to be used for storage, ya little pinhead?

Those with the least bit of Common Sense will realize that drivers were
included in the original question because the person had intentions of
booting from that drive.

But this worldly advise came from someone who proudly declared in a
previous thread, that s/h/it? is the owner of a Self-Cleaning Power
Supply and one should not doubt the ramblings of a blithering idiot.

Presumably he doesnt realise that he doesnt need drivers, ****wit child.

Only if you want to boot off it.

And even if he does, a repair install will work fine with XP
and 98, no need to format the drive and do a fresh install.

Quoting a sentence from the original question for the severely
retarded, who can't even grasp the concept of basic English:

"I realise I would need to install the new drivers for my motherboard."

Guess this sentence was composed because he had nothing else to do.

Twit.

A repair of the operating system will only be successful in one out of
10 attempts.

But you're a complete imbecile, so carry on.

Not a ****ing clue, as always.

The Keyword is "Successful", little man.

Which means that the job was not Half-Assed by an amateur because it is
not his system/problem and pushed right out the door.

It'll work far more often than that.
Actually on Win98 it's never needed, but XP is picky about
chipsets/boot controllers.

Good call.

Good call.

I'm anxiously awaiting the unveiling of his magical Power Supply made
by Donald Duck with Self-Cleaning features to hit the market. . .
