I am seeing it a lot more lately, I go to a page which is
full of banner ads, and some of these ads display my
town, like "Meet girls in (mytown)", and the (mytown)is
filled in with, well, my town. I use MS anti-spyware, ad-
aware and spybot s&d, keep them updated and run scans at
least once a week, and always delete my temp internet
files, and delete cookies. Does anyone know how this is
happening?

I'm not completely certain, but your assigned IP address is geographically
specific. You can block any number of bits of information that your browser
may or may not be set to share, but the IP address is essential or you can't
communicate.

Yes, your general location can be determined by your ip-
address and it has nothing to do with spyware. The free
online tool at "http://geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm" will
show you what can be determined by your ip. Kinda' spooky
ain't it!

That's pretty impressive. Not only does it manage the city, but in my case
it's got the general region of the city correct. (for those header-reading
