Question: GHOST-ing a SATA system with a RAID controller

Hi, all.

I've used Ghost for years to back up my system after getting it dialed
in. That was with IDE, though.

I just got a system with SATA (ASUS M4A79 mainboard) - first time I've
needed a RAID controller driver for a home PC install. And I didn't
even get a floppy drive installed in the case. Erg.

Anyway. Now that I'm in the world of RAID controllers and SATA, is
there any way I can offload a tweaked-out image of my machine like I
used to do with Ghost? I loved being able to flatten the machine at
any time, and having a baseline config in less than half an hour
instead of half a day...

Thanks!

I use Acronis True Image and it works exactly the same way on a RAID as it
does on a single drive.
The 2 Raid drives are shown as a single unit under Explorer....just Ghost
it.

If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate
or disruptive,please ignore it.
If you dont know how to ignore a posting complain
to me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate :-)

But could you briefly clarify how the tool is used? Ghost, for
example, uses a DOS boot disk. So I would need DOS drivers for the
RAID controller to see any volumes attached to it. That's my problem.
Does Acronis operate differently? Does it not back up and restore from
a DOS session? That'd be nice...

Thanks!

Acronis does not use a DOS bootdisk. It installs just like any other XP
program and as such runs under XP.
It creates an Image of my C drive(which is the RAID drive) onto an external
drive that I use for that purpose.
It tells you to create an Emergency Bootable Recovery CD with which you can
start the system if your XP will not boot.
This CD does not need an Operating System to work as it has a version of
Linux on it that sees the RAID hard drive.
For more details see the Acronis True Image website.
Ghost I am not familiar with

Under Bios Setup menu Main / Storage Configuration / OnChip SATA Type:
setting it to IDE should allow DOS to access the SATA drive properly.
