Hello everyone,

I am new to RAID and I have been charged with installing a RAID 50
configuration over 8 * 35MB Seagate 10000RPM Hard Disks.

Software: Intel RAID BIOS console v1.77 I am using the Configuration
Wizard in an attempt to set up RAID 50. So far I've tried many
combinations but Im not 100% sure if what I have done is actually RAID
50 or something else i.e. something completely unworkable.

Briefly here are some steps I have done.

Intel Configuration Wizard

Select New Configuration
- Yes to clear the current configuration

Select Custom Configuration

Array Definitions, In this section I set up two Arrays.
- Array 0 containing Disks 0, 1, 2 and 3
- Array 1 containing Disks 8, 9, 10 and 11

Define Logical Drives.
- It is at this point that I think I have to setup the RAID 50 with my
two Arrays.

- On the right I have the Default Configuration set to
-- Array 0 R0=140008MB,R5=105006MB
-- Array 1 R0=140008MB,R5=105006MB

- On the left I have the Logical Drive configuration options. This
sections allows me to define.
-- RAID Level (0,1,5) {I select either 5 or 0}
-- Stripe Size (I set to: 64k)
-- Read Policy (I set to: write thru No BBU)
-- Cache Policy (I set to: Direct IO)
-- Span (enable/disable) {I select enable when attempting to put the
RAID 0 across the RAID 5 and set to disable for all my RAID5 logical
drives}
-- Select Size < > MB

I have attempted to set up four separate RAID 5 Logical drives on each
array (making a total of 8 logical drives) and then, Highlight both
arrays select RAID 0 and enable span and attempt to make a final
logical RAID 0 device that encompasses both Array 0 and Array 1's four
logical RAID 5 devices.

I have also tried various combinations including just making one big
RAID 5 Logical Drive on each array and attempting to encapsulate these
in a RAID 0.

I have also tried making the RAID 0 first and then put the RAID 5 on
top of that.

Really I just seem to be spinning my wheels. If anyone can point me in
the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for you time and consideration.

In case anyone else is struggling with the same setup I found this....

How to properly configure RAID 50 in SRCU42X:

SRCU42X
Minimum requirement: 6 hard drives.

1. Press ctrl -G during POST and get into the Raid bios console v1.77
2. Select Configuration wizard > Add configuration > Custom
configuration.
3. Select the first 3 drives (use ctrl key and mouse click) and accept
array.
4. Select 3 more drives (use ctrl key and mouse click) and accept
array (you should see 2 arrays, array 0 & array 1) and click next.
5. Select the 2 arrays in the left window and that is array 0 and
array 1(use ctrl key and mouse click)
6. Configure the following:
a.Raid level: raid 5
b.Span: enable and
c.Enter the size
7.Click accept
8.Under the logical drive window, you should see: array 0 -LD0: raid
5: [size]MB: optimal and array 1 - LD0 (contd)
9. Click accept
10.Save this config, click yes
11.Want to initialize the new logical drives, click yes
12.In the logical drive window, you should see: LD0: raid 5:
[size]MB:optimal, LD0 (contd) - and thats you raid 50 array.
