Question about WMAs and music players

I recently downloaded MusicMatch's latest version 10, and decided I was
going to learn to record CD's, now that I am purchasing music online.

My question is about tracks I had recorded with WMP from my in house
CDS, which are WMAs, but *3 times the size* of the music I purchased
through MM, which are also WMAs.

Is that because the WMP files were recorded with the "lossless" setting?

Whatever the reason, can they be converted, or do I just have to delete
those files, and record them again with MusicMatch?

TIA... for any responses. I'm a newbie at this, but not computers.

Probably, if that's the setting you're using to rip with.

You can't increase the quality of a compressed audio file by just
changign a setting; you have to re-rip using less-to-no compression.

When I chose that setting on WMP for quality, I had no idea what I was
doing, for instance tripling the size of these files. The ones recorded
by MM seem fine to me. So I think I'll standardize without the
"lossless" attributes.

I've yet to create a music CD, that's what I am working up to now. :)

Thanks, I'll just record from my cd tracks again, since I'm just getting
started.

Can you tell me if the CD's that came with my old system will be okay
with my present CD-RW drive and for music CDs. They are Imation 24 x 80
disks, and my Lite On drive [info] just says 48x Max. Thanks again...

They *should* be, but every drive seems to have idiosyncrasies re
preferences for blanks.
