I've never built a website before and have wanted to learn for sometime. I'm
familiar with frontpage and actually put a site together on it but never
published to the web. I know that I need to make sure that it is Frontpage
compatible so I was looking for suggestions. Anybody that could spare a
second to point me in the right direction, I would be greatly appreciated.
not for a fancy site. Just something for my family probably. Thanks, Dave

http://www.minnesotashopper.com Sign up and your domain name is only
$13.50 per year.
Perfect FrontPage support. Dan Root is a real gentleman. Tell them
minutemanfoundation.org referred you to them. The Foundation will receive a
$15 credit.

Dave,
There are actually two parts to this.

Part 1) actually buying the domain. This is done through a domain
registrar such as Network Solutions (they're the oldest of the bunch) and
others such as GoDaddy and register.com.

Part 2) is hosting the web site that the domain will point to. This is
the part you need to worry about. The web host must be compatible with
FrontPage, if you are using the FrontPage server extensions. If you're not
using the FrontPage server extensions, then you probably won't have any
problems (though some users have a trick getting themes to work with their
non-FP host from time to time). Usually the web host and the company you
purchase the domain from are two completely different companies, most domain
companies offer limited (and I repeat, limited) web hosting capabilities,
usually designed for the person who will only be throwing together a few
pages and may need to have them walked through it through some sort of
wizard or custom tool.

Hope this helps,

Register.com is NOT a good choice for getting your domain name, in my opinion.
The get you the name cheaply ok, but then if you want someone besides them to
host your site they charge an unusually large fee.

I would use Network Solutions to buy my domain name. even though they cost a
little more. And when you do get your name, make sure you keep Adminstrative
privileges to yourself so that you can move your site to a different host if you
wish to. If a place wont let you be the Administrative Contact, dont use them.
