Hi,
Vista can detect my webcam, and I can see that it was listed in my
"Device Manager", but i can not see it in "Scaners and Cameras" in "Control
Panel" and the webcam's shortcut is not appeared in "Computer" Form. Does it
mean: it was not installed properly? What can i deal with it? (plus: I can
use it in Live Messenger) Thanks.

Lorry,

Are you sure the camera is compatible with Vista? I personally don't know
whether it is, so it's up to you to know.

If it isn't compatible (or you don't know), try running it in WinXP SP-2
compatibility mode. Right click the shortcut and select Properties. You'll
see a compatibility tab where you can select the mode. Also, take a look at
the following website for any additional information:

http://www.pcbesttoday.info/vimicro-and-driver-and-usb-pc-camera.html

I have no idea what you need to know, so I'm trying to provide options to
consider. Others may have additional information.

Thanks freddy, but you know, my webcam is running well in Live Messenger in
Vista(I think it is said that the webcam driver works properly), all want to
know is how to use it to take a photo, because when i used Winxp last year, a
shortcut of this webcam appeared in "My Computer" Form, and then I could take
a photo by double clicking the shortcut, but now, I can not find the function
like that, Could you help me how to do it? Thanks.

No, I didn't find any compatible driver for Vista from Vimicro official
website? But I think it is compatible, because it has appeared in my "Device
Manager", It don't report any errors. And I can use this webcam in MSN
Messenger. So I don't why it is not compatible.

Lorry,

You need to reread the suggestion on trying compatibility mode. If that
suggestion don't work, then it's likely that your webcam won't work in Vista
because you don't have fully compatible Vista software. In that event, take
a look at compatible webcams.

I have got a similar problem. A friend bought a new HP laptop with
Vista Home Premium installed and it has a built in Webcam with
microphone. I helped her set it up and when I left the Webcam was
working perfectly, tested with Skype. Now several weeks later the
microphone still works but the webcam is no longer working. The
programs suggest unplugging the device and plugging it in again. Funny
stuff as it is built into the frame of the display.

I looked at the device manager and it looks like the device was
installed 3 times and two had the yellow exclamation marks. I don't
know how that happened but she does have grandchildren. :-| I
removed the two with the yellow exclamation mark and the remaining one
shows there as working properly. I rebooted and still nothing.

It does not show up in the Scanner and Cameras in the Control Panel
either but I don't know if that is a problem. My own system does not
show there either and it works properly.

I know we are all trained to think it is always user or software error
but I am starting to think that this is a hardware problem and that
the device failed? She does have 3 year warranty. If anyone has any
other suggestions please let me know.

Have an HP, and it also exhibits the same problems with the webcam. HP
denies there is a problem and will not help.
Rebooting does not bring the camera on-line. I get it to work by closing the
lid, putting the laptop to sleep, then when the lid is open again it starts
a new session and the web cam now works. Unfortunately doing this also
disconnects all network connections.
I hope that helps

Steve

Thanks I will tell her to try that. Did you check to see if the SLEEP
button does the same trick?

Just in case that does not work, is there a way of shutting it down
totally without removing the battery? Or maybe there is a way of
unplugging this webcam?

If all fails, she bought extended warranty at the retail store.

Hello everyone, can anyone help me with things.

1. when i choose to make a new question my computer makes an annoying noise
like the one to stop pop-ups. I have allowed pop ups but it still won't let
me type a question.
2. On m desktop it says acer orbit cam with an icon and when i got to
select it it says 'a problem caused the programme to stop working, if windows
finds a solution it will notify you'. However my webcam works in messenger,
how bizarre. Please help people

I don't see an answer to my problem in this thread. I recently purchased a
notebook computer with Windows Vista Basic 32 bit edition. I also have a
Microsoft webcam nx6000 and downloaded the latest software version 1.4 and
the latest version of windows live messenger. I have made multiple attempts
at video calls. I can see and here the person I'm talking with but he doesn't
get any video or audio from me. I've checked the webcam and it seems to be
working fine. Is this a Vista issue. I have no trouble with my other computer
that is operating XP.

Hi,
Yes, it's correct and also my webcam was working properly since approx. one
year and suddenly switched off. Pls help
