Greetings! I had posted this question sometime at the end
of November or early December, but cannot find it anywhere
now, and am still having the same problem.

We have a database set up in Access 2000. It has 3
tables, one of which is only used for archiving records.
With the other two, one stores our contact information for
students who have degree plans on file. The other
contains all the degree plan information for each student,
and the tables are linked. There are two forms used for
data entry... a command button on the Contact Info form
takes the user to the Degree Audit form. In late
November, one of the users was trying to clean up the
database by removing some duplicate records from the
degree audit table. We had a problem with the database
and it was closed so I could run the compact and repair
utility on it. However, when we went back into the
database a new problem appeared. Now, we can be on the
Contact Info form, and click on the button to enter the
Degree Audit form... once it opens, it tells us "Record Is
Deleted" on a dialogue box. When we click OK, the record
information is gone and is replaced with # signs and all
information appears to be gone. We cannot add new
information. If we go to the data table, the information
is apparently gone. HOWEVER, if we close the database and
reopen it and actually go into the data table, the
information will be there.

Any idea how to fix this problem? Backing up the database
to a pre-problem version did not work to get rid of the
problem. We are struggling, as I am only 2/3 of the way
through a 3 semester course sequence in using and
maintaining an Access DB and our campus IT staff have no
one who is more knowledgeable than I on the program.

(oh, if it makes a difference, the database is split, and
I suspect the IT staffer who split it for me did it wrong,
as both the front and back ends are still on the same
server... instead of the front end residing on the
computers of the 3 of us who use the database.)

Thanks for any help!

Try to see if your tables are linked correctly. Go to the menu bar and
select Tools\Add-Ins\Linked Tables

If all tables are linked correctly then close you databases on all
computers and locate the directory where the files are located. If you
see an .ldb file for the database then delete this file and see if the
database operates correctly. If not undelete the .ldb file and try
compacting and repairing the back database.

Hope this helps
