Question about Vuescan

Hi, I recently jumped from Vuescan 8.2.XX to 8.3.XX. I had a little
problem that Ed H, was kind enough to help me with (it turns out that I
needed to calibrate the scanner). Okay, heres the issue....when I use
IR cleaning I get very different results between the two releases. The
latest release seems to have more noise that the earlier one. This is
most noticable in the border (which should be pure black) where I can
see quite a bit of noise. I also see a general noise level in the rest
of the slide. Also, at an equivalent IR setting, the old version did a
better job at dust removal.

I use a Canoscan4000. While it is slow, it seems to work pretty well.

Anyone experience this and have any ideas on what I might try next? I
can always revert back to 8.2 and use that release if I have too, it
just seems odd.

Thanks.

IR noise reduction was broken for a while shortly after 8.3.59.
Try downloading the latest, 8.3.76: so far, only had a few
hiccups on multi-cropping, everything else seems to be
working fine with my 4990.

In my limited use of 8.3.75 IR with the FS4000 seems vastly improved.
Only catch- you need to lock exposure and set IR exposure to 2 for
slides and 3 for negatives and use heavy cleaning. I'm going to post a
comparison of ICE on the LS-5000 and IR with Vuescan and the FS-4000 on
the same slide. For the first time, I think the Canon yields the
better result (more effective, fewer artifacts, no image softening). I
haven't done much testing with negatives yet, but will soon.
