Question about vista

Vista so far looks very good all beta releases I've used have worked almost
perfectly for I have had no blue screens at all
The only issues I've really had have been related to third party drivers
which I guess is to be expected.
However one thing I have noticed in all builds so far is that when the vista
DVD boots to setup regardless of what you choose to do either "Upgrade" or
"Clean install" there is no option to format the drive.
I specially noticed this when I was testing various methods to install I
used a spare HDD that I had in the cupboard which is a western digital 40Gb
ide drive
it had a previous installation of windows ME on it and had a FAT32 file
system I was thinking the VISTA DVD would of given me an option to format it
to NTFS but unless I'm missing something I couldn't find it.
I had to use my XP installation CD to format it to NTFS

So my question is, When Vista hits the store for retail will the final
version have the capability to format a drive from within Setup?
 
It can format, and do the other things too like partition, I think its under
"show more options" (or similar) on the right hand side of the page.

I seem to recall seeing an option to repartition drives before
committing to the install in 64 bit Vista.

I did not exercise the option as I used Seagate utilities to setup up
the drive before hand while in XP pro
 
I couldn't get into that at the time
it pretty much had a warning saying that the FAT32 file sysytem was
incompatible and that I should exit Setup and convert the drive to NTFS
first and then continue Setup.or something along those lines I can't
remember exactly what it said word for word
I was thinking it would of offered me the option of converting from within
Setup like XP does.
For me this isn't a huge issue as it was quite easy to work around.
But I'm sure their are quite a few people out there that haven't upgraded
their OS for years and are still using the FAT 32 file system they'll have a
few probs there specially if they don't have software to convert the drive.
 
Hi,

It is there, you just don't see it unless you enable the drive tools. When
you get to the point where you choose the installation location, you need to
use the advanced tools to format.

ok fair enough I was just wondering as it didn't automatically present those
options

if you run the DVD from another OS the options do not show.
you have to BOOT directly from the DVD for the options to show.

unfortunately installing directly from booted dvd vista STEALS the "C" drive designation.

options.
format the partition from the other os.
or boot from the dvd, format the partition then boot to XP and install vista from there.
