When you update your computer with Windows Update does
that take more memory away or will it leave it the same?
If it does how can i add more memory?

No, updating will not take away memory.
Once memory is installed in a machine, it is there until you physically
remove it.
If you meant hard drive space, then that is different. Update the OS can use
more drive space, depending on what updates are installed and if you choose
to archive the old files or not.

I think you have your terms wrong but basically yes. Any
updates add more information to your Hard Disk Drive and
will consume some of your "memory" to do so. What I think
you mean is that you have a 40GB Hard Drive and have used
say 10GB up, adding patches and updates like SP1a and so
on will use up that space. The only way to gain more space
is to add a bigger hard drive or "slave" another hard
drive to your present one or to delete unecessary things
like the indexing service or the useless system restore or
duplicate files and so on. Keep smiling.

"..the useless system restore .."

System Restore has proven invaluable to me on several
occasions - it is not useless - it is a 'life-saver'

Whether a person disables it to save HDD Space is another
matter but I would not be without it
