Hi,

If I right-click on "My Computer", then choose Properties, then
Advanced, then Performance Options, it looks like I should have the
choice between choosing "Applications" or "Background Services".
Unfortunately, these choices are both grayed out for me. Does anyone
know how to un-gray these options??

Thanks for any help,
GregandMary

Log-in as Administrator? Or with Administrator rights?

Yes, I'm the Administrator, and logged in as such. Thanks for the
suggestion. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again,

If you are the real Administrator, it is maybe not a W2k issue. Or
something must be wrong in the registry.

I have no further suggestions, other than that some program or utility
might have "hi-jacked" this setting.

Are you running any optimizers, tweakers, speed-uppers etc?

I have TweakUI installed, but I think that's my only tweaker or
speed-upper.

I wish I could fix this thing. Thanks for any help.

It couldn't be a setting in TweakUI? I cannot check it for you as it is not
installed on my machine.

Have you checked in Control Panel/Users and Passwords/ also under
Advanced/Advanced/Users/Administrators that there are absolutely no
restrictions or references to local profiles whatsoever?

And your log-in name is Administrator, not a variation of it (like
Administrators or Administrater)? Could be a practical joker or malware
making these slight changes.

No, it does not appear as though TweakUI is affecting this problem. I
looked through all of TweakUI's settings, and I don't believe that
TweakUI is related to this problem.

I looked under Users and Passwords, as you suggested. I am truly
logged on as Administrator, not Administrater or Administrators.

Under controlpanel/users/advanced/advanced/groups/, there are four
names listed. One is Administrator. One is my name (let's say
greg.bright). One is NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE (S-1-5-4), and the
fourth name is \S-1-5-21-1831884674-1378299419-213140736-1739.

These two funny numeric names appear to be what microsoft calls sids.

Under appendix J on this link, you can see what these specific SIDS are
for. One appears to be for remote access to my computer which I've
allowed in the past for WebX sessions with a responsible company. The
other funny SID appears to be related to home networking (I'm on a home
network with four other computers).

But answer me this. Do the other names listed under Administrator
really effect my rights as Administrator? I don't think so, but I'm no
computer guru. Since I am the one logged on as Administrator, I should
have the rights to change the settings as I wish (refer to the first
post in this thread to refresh your memory as to what this thread is
all about. Sorry for taking so much time to update myself here).

Thanks again for any help Dodo (and anyone else wishing to contribute).
