Question about Media Player 11

When I open a file, be it music or video, it starts to play but the player
hasn't actually opened up on screen so I have to click the icon to open it
and when I close media player the file continues to play.
So 2 questions...

Is this normal?
and how do I change it so it doesn't do this?
I've looked through the wmp options numerous times and I can't see it
(unless i'm looking way too hard that i'm not seeing it).

any help would be great as its getting quite frustrating.

I'm glad it's not just me. It's not a problem now, but it has been in
the past and I've had no clue as to why. Fortunately it somehow
fixed itself.
 
if you right click the taskbar and and in toolbars either check or uncheck
media player. It should open then. not sure bout the closing part. other
than you have to stop the video before you close.
