question about MBR

I had an HD experience a controller failure, and it's not that old of a
drive, less than a year.
I was able to recover the drive, but am seeing some wierd issues with it.
Windows sees it just fine, Partition Magic however says it's bad, and won't
give me access to tools for further recovery, I think the MBR has gotten
toasted.
PM says the drive has partitions extending into other partitions, but it's
one big partition 300 Gig, I use it for backups.
I've formatted the entire drive, using disk management within windows, I
thought that would fix the issues, nope.
PM still says it's bad, so how can I go about fixing the MBR and partition
errors?
I'm getting another external USB drive for backups, and I will move all info
off the old drive and attempt another chkdsk and format, so any further
suggestions are welcome.
 
Surely most hd's have at least a years warranty?
Use the hd manufacturers checking utility - free from their web site

P.M. could be in error but I have found it to be very reliable over many
years. It appears it is trying to tell you that the partition table has
errors. The MBR must be OK or you couldn't boot or read the drive.

From my P.M. 8.0 help ...

PowerQuest technical support can help resolve partition table errors if
you e-mail the PartitionInfo report to (e-mail address removed).

If you don't mind wiping the disk, delete the partition(s) and then create a
new one. Formatting won't clear up MBR errors. You probably also have
the partition table editor, PTEdit in your PM directory sub tree. If so, you can use
that to zero out all MBR entries. That (in effect) wipes the disk, as far as most
software is concerned. Just make sure you have selected the correct disk.

If the tools your are using is constantly telling you that the drive
is "bad," locate, download and use the drive manufacturer's hard
drive diagnostic tool(s.) This software should give the ultimate
answer if the drive is bad. If the drive fails, then consult the
manufacturer's web site for the warranty claims process.
 
In a previous response I already said I got the tools and everything said it
was fine.
but the issue has been resolved.
One suggestion was to delete the partition and recreate it, so I copied off
the data
and deleted the partition and recreated it, all tools now it's fine, thanks
for the suggestion to delete the partition.
