There are many people that kind state that macros are not that good.
However, many people around the world have created some real incredible
applications, and they used no code, and just macros. Macros are one of
those amazing features that some developers don't like...since you non
programmers can make applications!
I will not stand here and some how say that using macros is a bad thing.
They are a great tool, and one that has enabled so many ms-access users to
do incredible things.
Many kind of have the attribute that using macros is kind of like using
training wheels on a bicycle.
However, I do think the analogy of training wheels is not so bad.
I have been
learning it past 2 months now more intensive and i made prety complex
aplication for workorders and call center (cable tv company) i have still a
lot to learn ..
Actually, the learning never stops. Ms-access has SOOO much you can learn.
There is years of stuff to learn!
i wondering am i doing right trying to keep macro comands at minimun
convertig them to visual basic code? i'm trying to make aplication without
macro comands...
I would not necessary make a hard and fast rule one way or the other! I do
think you should start trying to use code in place of macros. So, yes...you
are on the right track, and yes..you should try to start and use code.
Writing code can open up a lot of new doors for you. This is especially the
case when you need some "data processing" to occur. Macros most certainly
allow you to jump from form to form, and set some values in a form. However,
when you need to start processing data, or start to make a complex user
interface, you will find that macros will start to hinder, or restrict your
creative abilities! While writing code can be harder at first, the result is
far more freedom in terms of design!
i have to say i did not use any books to learn access but the help files,
but i'm now looking to buy one... and to buy microsoft tools for developing
aps in access for my personal use cose this tools i use now are at work and
i use them only there..
any sugestions for buying a book would be nice...
Here is a on-line one:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/bapp2000/ht
ml/acbatitle.asp
And, here is one that you might even enjoy and find even better:
http://www.microsoft.com/accessdev/articles/bapp97/toc.htm
That last one is for access 97...but it is still applicable to the latest
version, and has some nice intro stuff.
Hopefully, a few others will jump in with some better book suggestions..
Good luck!
When you do start to code...then you can start making screens like:
