For lack of a better forum to ask the question in...

....how do I make Hotmail ALWAYS quote text with a > prefix when replying,
instead of attaching the original email to the reply as an attachment?

I've tried the Auto function and the Manual function.

I find it really hard to reply to an email by responding to small portions
at a time through Hotmail.

Are you using the web or Outlook Express?

Web. There wouldn't be a problem with Outlook or Outlook Express (which I am
using right now).

As far as I know, the only way is to select, copy and paste,
the damn web interface, whether Yahoo or Hotmail send
forwarded mail as an attachment. If there is anything else,
you'll have to look at the mail options.

I took ma look at my web interface to see what options they
list and they list several options, including one that will
put a line across the page to separate the reply from the
original. I'll test that out to see what it does. Just
look a little past the manual or auto function.

I, too, think it's ridiculous that there isn't a simple "prefix original
text with >" command in Hotmail. That is how 90% of web surfers respond to
emails and usenet postings, you'd think Hotmail would have the ability to do
this.

How else are we supposed to respond section by section?

They do offer the > but I don't know exactly what it does,
either in auto or manual. I'll have to experiment a little
to test it. It also may vary by the settings in the
computer software of the receiver.
