I am well aware of the cause of the smearing problem on fast moving tft
images and that this is one reason why some gamers still prefer a crt. I
would however like to understand the question below first here is my setup:

An AMD64 4000+ on K8neo2 platinum and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 1GB dram, 2 x
250GB disk

19" Hitachi cm752et. on RGB primary at 1024 x 768, 100Hz
and a Samsung 17" tft on DVI secondary at 1080 x 1024, 75Hz

I run dxdiag on each display and the Microsoft spinning box on the CRT is
spinning what looks like twice as fast as the TFT image on each of the
direct3d speed 7, 8 and 9 tests which all pass.

Why would this be? It cannot be the TFT refresh, as surely all that would
happen is the cube would keep spinning but parts of the rotation would be
visually unseen during refreshes?

I am not a gamer so have no experience of the software to do speed tests.

The "speed" tests (Response Time) that you are talking about require very
advanced electrical test equipment.

If you enable VSync, expect the spinning cube on the RGB display to slow
down.

Also, depending on the card and the driver version, 3D acceleration on a
secondary monitor could be hairy.
