Question about Canon 9950F scanner

Hi all! I have a Canon 9950F flatbed scanner and was wondering
if anyone knew how to remove the top so that I can clean the underside
of the scanner's glass?(there's a hazy buildup under there.)
I have e-mailed Canon 3 times, and called them, and they refuse
to tell me. Their advice is to take it to an authorized repair
facility and have them do it. Yeah, right....I'm going to drive 40
miles and pay someone $50 to spray some windex on a piece of glass and
wipe it off.
My older MicroTeks had 4 screws that you removed, and the top
would lift right off. This Canon has no screws, so it must pop off
somehow, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Does anyone know how?...or know where I might find out? Thanks
to all who respond.

Do not use Windex! It is to strong for the plastic 'Glass'. It is not glass,
it is an acrylic plastic.
Use plain water or eye glass lens cloths and/or a Microfiber cloth.

I don't know how the Canon 9950F is built, but if it is similar to the Canon
8400F in construction, I do know how to get the 'glass' top off.

Thanks so much for the help CSM1! My scanner is different, but
there were two screws inside the top cover's slots. I removed them,
and that plate that they were screwed in lifted off. Once it was off,
the glass lifted up and pulled out of the front plate.
The front section that contains the on/off button doesn't pop
off, like yours does, it has several screws that hold it on. The
screws are inside and can be accessed once the glass is removed. Oh,
my glass is real glass. I tapped on the edge of it with a spoon and
it gave that familiar clink that glass has.
Anyway, thanks so much for pointing me to the screws in the top
cover hinge slots, I would never have found them.

Hmmm....good point. I think I'm going to clean the glass again,
since there's one large piece of lint that is stuck to the bottom of
the glass.(It wasn't there when I put the glass back into the
scanner.)
How would I get the pictures to you? Keep in mind that I only
removed and cleaned the glass. The mirrors seemed to be arranged the
way yours are, but the cover plate didn't have any visible screws that
you could remove to gain access to them, so I didn't try to force
anything, since the mirrors seem to be clean.(no visible telltale
signs in my scans.)
One thing, if I get some pictures, what size would you like them
to be, or should I just send them as full sized jpegs and let you
resize them to whatever you need?

If its like other scanners, the amount of film that you had on the glass
will be the same as that on the mirors.

That is the good use of the MicroFiber cloth, it gets the particles left by
everything else.

If you go to my web site, you will find my email address on the first page.

You can attach the pictures as individual files or if you have WinZip, you
can zip them into one large zip (I prefer the Zip). I have high speed DSL
service, so the download is pretty fast.

Be aware that some ISPs do have a total file size limit on Email. In which
case you will have to break the size into multiple emails.

If you will, write a description of what each image is about.

As to the size of the images, I use 800 x 600 Pixels for the large images on
the web site.
Keep the jpeg quality up high, no less than 75 quality out of 100.

Or you can send whatever size Jpeg your digital camera creates.

Okay, I sent them as they came out of the camera, with the
exception of a few that I added some text to. The filename pretty
much describes what the picture is about. If you need more info on
it, let me know.
Sorry about the large file sizes, but you can do whatever you
want with the pictures....resize them, crop them, delete them,
whatever. I wasn't sure how many to send, so I sent 12. Some may be
unnecessary, so use them as you want.
