Wes

when i try to connect to c$ on my other computer i get a
windows that says for username guest and its shaded and i
cant change it and it wants a password. I have tried my
administrative password and that doesnt work eather. I
also tried activating the guest account in windows and
that doesnt work. What do i do to access this resource?

Hi, Wes -

You can't access a hidden share with the guest account -
they're only available to the Administrator account and
anyone in the local Administrators group.

You'll need to create an account on both machines that
has administrator rights on the XP machine - preferably
with the same username and password if you want
transparent access to hidden shares. Then, log in to the
remote machine with that username and password and the XP
box should let you right in.

When the username is guest and grayed out like that, it means that simple
file sharing is enabled on one or both of the computers. Simple File
Sharing will only use the guest account to connect to network resources. To
disable Simple File Sharing:

Open My Computer
Go to the Tools menu and select Options
Click on the View tab
Uncheck "Use simple file sharing" at the bottom.
