Ok, I admit it , I'm a closet geek.
I can't boot Knoppix from my CD drive w/ present bios setting.
I know I can set my bios to allow my CD drive to boot before my floppy
drive....but would rather not.
Now my question.
Anyone know what is required to create a floppy companion disk that
will help boot from CD as an option. In my mind, there should be a way
to do this, but have not figured out how yet.
Box has XP, BTW
TIA

Google "knoppix boot floppy" without the quotes, and follow the first
link.

I found this that sounds pretty simple< if I'm thinking straight >
I must have Googled in all the wrong places before ? <G>

" If you can't boot from a CD, you'll need a bootable floppy to start
the process. A floppy boot image can be found on the Knoppix CD at
KNOPPIX/boot.img. "

I've downloaded both the Knoppix v3.4 5/10/2004 and 5/17/2004 ISO's and
still can't find KNOPPIX/boot.img anywhere on them. Both ISO's check out
fine with their respective md5's.

What am I missing?

(I do find the file as advertised on the last ISO - v3.1 frm
1/20/2003.)

the instructions for how to do this are on the cd,just open the cd in windows
and read the help files.

There was a tutorial on how to make a *dual floppy* for the ver. w/out
the KNOPPIX/boot.img...I forget where it was now.
I finally conceded and changed my BIOS settings to allow my CD drive
to boot before my HD. Worked fine that way.....Well, if I could
speak/read German it would. I downloaded ,what stated English ver.,
but when it boots it comes up German.
I mean learning a new OS is difficult enough but in a language I don't
speak...whew.
Still, I had fun tinkering and guessing the yes and no buttons were in
the usual locations..hehe
I even surfed the web for a bit w/ it. Tested out some
graphics,played a VCD,AVI, MPEG and a game or two...mostly navigating
in German but did get some use out of the English button for typing in
Open Office...
I am surely considering a transition...even if it's initially on a
partitioned drive......Got to spend some time and figure how to do an
English boot.
