Question about batch files.

I would like to write a batch file to determine specifically what drive a
specifc directory and file are located on at system startup. I would then
like to save the value for future use by another batch file. I've tried to
save the answer to a "batch variable" but to avail. I don't know how to
find the variable. Can someone please help me?
