I'm needing to upgrade my laptop to xp2 and need to backup a few
directories. Now I picked up some Memorex music CD-R's and remember
reading on the plastic packaging that they could be used to burn data as
well as music but I fail to be able to backup any files on them. Can
anybody tell me how this is done or did I misunderstand what I read on
the packaging.
Any help would be appreciated, I suspect I'll have to go buy some more CD's.

What program are you using to do those backups??
The Backup Program thats part of XP does not burn to a CD.......you would
need to back up to a specific folder on your HD and then burn that file to a
CD.

No you were correct in what you read, but the Memorex cd-r are
nothing but trouble. They seem to have no start or ending parameters.
You will probably go through the whole box before you find a good one
(if your lucky). I started using only Sony brand and had no more
problems. Since then I have purchased a usb flash drive. These drives
are cheap and come in a full range of GB sizes . The cheapest place to
buy one, I found is Tigerdirect. Check it out.

I hope this helps.

Buy a USB flash drive. Very inexpensive and easy as copying files from
one folder to another. You can order 4 GB name brand flash drives
online, 4 GB for USD50.

Good luck.

Your computer or CD drive probably came with some free, basic CD recording
software. Find that software and use the data disc function.
