Hello everybody.

Are there a program out there, who work together with most known browsers,
stopping or warning when I'm going to a page where the result is that my
computer gets all kind of spyware?

I went to a homepage yesterday and surfed around and got 88 spyware files
without knowing it. (I run Ad-Aware every day) (the page was casalemedia.com
by the way - just to warn you)

What I had in mind was a program running in the background and whan using
the "addresse field" and press "go" the addresse was ckecked by the program
and a warning popped up, that this page installed spyware just visiting the
page!

Are there such a program out there?

Spywareblaster and enabling spybots "teatimer.exe" would help against
installing malware. Also system safety monitor has a html plugin that can
detect any embedded scripts in a web url , and will give you the option to
allow to run or not.Another answer would be to use custom security settings
in your browser and prompt or disallow activex and prompt or disallow
scripts from running. The nearest programe to what i think you want is System
safety monitor.

Unless the 'spyware' was just cookies (which don't pose a major risk,
really) I would suggest that you should look at making your computing
environment safer. You shouldn't be able to pick up spyware just by surfing
to a web page!

Important steps:

1. Don't use Internet Explorer. Use pretty much anything else (Firefox, as
you know, is free and very good)

2. Don't surf with administrator privileges! Create a regular, restricted
user account and use this for your day to day operations

3. Keep Windows update to date, patched.

With the many thousands of freeware programs listed on your site, it is
curious that you are still surfing with internet explorer and outlook
express! Get yourself a nice mozilla suite and you won't have this
problem. :-)

If the poster is using IE with active x fully enabled then he could indeed
pick up spyware /pornware or worse be redirected to a trojaneous server
while just opening the webpage.SSM detects the embedded scripts and
redirects, within it.As you say though ..a browser that doesnt use activex
would cut out the majority of the exploits.

That's odd,

I went there (Using IE6) clicked on various links, there were no attempts to
install any activex components, or to run any that I have not set as approved
to be run from IE.

Afterwards I scanned with a fully updated Ad-Aware. It found nothing,
not even a harmless tracking cookie.

I've yet to acquire any spyware from browsing with IE (unless you count
cookies). But I don't allow websites to install activex components, unless
I really want the component and trust both the site and the program's creator,
basically shockwave, flash and Windows update.

Another subject: Thanks, Jem, for those nice Windows and Dos executable programs
on your website. Years ago, I used the DOS Power Menu, plan to use it again on a
DOS 486.
