Hi,
we have just one computer here. My father sometimes wants to use
it when I'm using it. If I got a second crt monitor and keyboard,
would I be able to just plug it in and let him use it at the same time
I was using it?

I mean could 2 people work on separate things at the same time without
the need for a router? Just plug the second crt into a video card and
the second keyboard into a USB port?

at the same time
I was using it?
This i don't think so......even remote admin software locks out the second user when activated, no?
are you saying you have a dual monitor card currently...cause even running 2 video cards in the same machine (under windows) can be
a challenge..

Well I plan on getting a new system soon so I was wondering if it may
be possible with a dual monitor card. If it can't be done, then why
the heck are there so many dual monitor cards? What are they being
used for? Just gaming (seeing different angles from the plane?) I
find it hard to believe that would warrant dual monitor support.

I saw a screenshot on ATI's website of 2 monitors displaying 2
different apps a wordprocessor program and an internet browser. This
was billed as dual monitor support. So i'm wondering if it is
possible - two people working off the same computer without a router.

Just plug the second monitor into the video card and the keyboard into
a usb slot. Would it work?

no.

There are applications (in my case Adobe) that are made much more easier to use by using two MONITORS to display ONE desktop, IOW
spread it over the two monitors. Thus separating the workspace from the tools.

The main advantage is when doing things like video or photo editing. You run
out of space real fast in apps like that and being able to spread them
across 2 monitors is a God send. Basically the second monitor is an
extention of the first monitor. It's like having a 2048X768 screen rather
than a 1024X768..

The problem is the dual inputs. I've never heard of anyone even trying
something like that. How would the system know which application which
keyboard was using? And 2 mice on the same desktop would be....

In Linux there is a way to set up a virtual terminal where you use one
machine as a "dumb terminal" and serve it from the faster machine kinda
like a -main frame- but you still need another system (and a fast network)
to do this. I played around with it on an old slow laptop networked to a
much faster desktop but it wasn't simple to get working. Easiest solution
is get another box.
