Check your volume control panel. You should have a microphone level on the
panel. Check that is not muted. There is also an "advanced" tab. On that
tab there is a box for "microphone boost" and "front panel microphone".
Check those settings. Do the treble and bass sliders seem to work?
On the volume control panel, on the options tab, select "advanced controls".
There is also a properties control (under options). Here you select the
items to be displayed on the main panel. Select "microphone" for sure, and
any others you may need. Also see that adjust volume for
"recording/playback" meets your needs.
I feel that your mike may be muted, or the incorrect mixer device for
recording is selected. Often it is a box on some obscure and insignificant
hidden panel somewhere that causes all these problems.
