When I create a document and "test" the appearance of some fonts for use as
headings, etc., I find that the font that I tried but elected to not use
stays at the top of the fonts lists in the drop-down box. If I elected to
keep the font in the document, that would be a "bonus" for sure. But if I
test a lot of fonts I soon end up with an unwieldy lists of unused fonts.

I searched the help file and found no reference to this list. I also
searched my document for any characters (like a blank line even) in the
format/font of the unused fonts and found that they are not present in my
document.

So, is there a way to purge the list of "tested but inactive" fonts?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul,

You can get rid of the font MRU list altogether with a registry hack:
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Options (or the
corresponding key on your machine), you can add a string key (REG_SZ)
"NoFontMRUList" and give it the value 1.

To re-enable the MRU list, remove NoFontMRUList or set its value to 0.

I did that because without MRU list, it's easer to navigate the list by
typing a font's first letter or letters.

If you are a bit wary about using regedit.exe, you can try to locate
support.dot on your machine. Depending on the version, the name of this
template may include the version number (support9.dot for Word2000 ...).

Greetings,
Klaus
