Dear all,

I encountered IE6 crashed on mshtml.dll when I access a site; the scenario
is very similar to issue described in KB811812. "Internet Explorer Quits When
You Visit a Web Page That Uses an XSL Transform and Window.name Property"

I am using IE6 (vers. 6.0.2900.2180) where mshtml.dll (vers. 6.0.2900.3059)

Would like to check whether the issue KB811812 apply to IE6 I am using. If so,
it would explain why my IE6 crashed.

Any fix/patch available?

Thanks in advance.

If you're currently running MSHTML.DLL v6.0.2900.3059, there is no way you
would be able to install v6.0.2800.1163, and MS wouldn't offer you the
hotfix anyway.

What site?

That is the GDR version? Try the QFE version at the same level instead.
If the fix is integrated in any currently distributed module it would probably be
in there.

Unfortunately they don't distinguish between the two sources by version number.
You have to go to the File Version, Timestamp, or Size to know what you have.

Dear PA Bear,

Thanks for your information.

It is an internal site. Hence, it is expected IE6 (with mshtml.dll
6.0.2900.3059)
would crash if IE6 visit the site described in KB811812. Right?

It is interesting that some of my colleagues running IE6 (with unknown
version of mshtml.dll yet) and visit the same site but their IE6 didn't crash.
Could it be the KB811812 issue happened after certain security patch(es)
applied?

Thanks for your information in advance.

Regards,
skleung.

Dear Rober Aldwinckle,

Thanks for your information. the "mshtml.dll" in my pc has the following
information.

File version: 6.0.2900.3059 (xpsp_sp2_qfe.070104-0040)
Size: 2.91 MB(3,062,272 bytes)
Created: Tuesday, January 01, 1980, 3:00:00 PM
Modified: Thursday, January 04, 2007, 10:05:30 PM

Do you suggest the issue can be resolved by installing MS06-016?

Thanks,
skleung

Sorry. Do you suggest the issue can be resolved by installing MS07-016?

Looks like you already have the QFE version installed.
So, if the symptom you are seeing is the same as was documented in KB811812
it would suggest that the hotfix was regressed, assuming it was ever included,
which is usually the case.
