Does anyone know of a similar program to Cleansweep for Win XP?
I need to clean up my registry - I'm sure it's all tied up in knots!
Cheers,
Ed

Unless you are 110% certain that you know what you're doing, I would
strongly advise against using any registry cleaners. It is all too easy to
remove something that the applet states is redundant, only to find that it
was essential and the only way you're going to restore your system to full
functionality is to reinstall Windows - clean.

Registry cleaners aren't the panacea they appear, at first, to be.

System Mechanic (www.iolo.com) is an excellent utility program
you may wish to try.

How do you know that your registry is "all tied up in knots"? And what does
"all tied up in knots" mean, anyway?

I didn't say that----ask the OP.

Hi, "all tied up in knots" means that I think, having installed and
uninstalled programs on my old but upgraded machine, there are plenty of
orphaned links to and from programs that aren't there any more, as well as a
whole load of other stuff, references to deleted files, etc.
I have to say that I reckon the best way to do the whole operation would be
to do a clean install of Windows again, but I'm not sure I can live without
my PC for a whole day!

Ed
