I have Norton Antivirus 2004 and today is has put two files in quarantine.
exjlpb.exe and fuaccnja.exe. Both to be w32.Swen.A@ virus. How do I, and
were do I go to fine these files on the internet to replace them. Also how
do I know if it's a useful file or not. Yes I know not easy to any in 5
words or less. I did read the info in 2004 and understood it, but to a
point. I have left them in quarantine and restarted my computer and all is
running well without them, good indication I know that they are not really
needed, but in the future other files is actually were my question goes.

Many thanks ahead of time for your help.

If you're serious, (??), these files need to be deleted since the AV
did it's job and quaratine them. Now delete the quaratine file.
These are viruses - that's why those files have been placed in a safe
file. These files are not to be replaced.

The same place you got the virus from - they *ARE* the virus!

Thank you for responding so quickly, Yes I am very serious. I am sorry that
It appeared to be a joke, just new at this. I will delete the files as you
said ASAP. If it were a file I need to keep a computer program running how
would I replace it? And how do I know it to be a useful or a junk file?

The best advice I can give you is leave most files in the computer
alone. For the most part, modern computers have so much space that a
few extra 100 or even 1000 files are not going cause the computer any
trouble. Next, just save your work to My Documents and keep track of
those documents. Leave the rest of the computer files. Many software
programs are designed to manage them for you.

About once a week, run the built-in clean utility at:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup

In the same folder as Disk Cleanup, use the Disk Defragmenter about
once a week or so.

Finally, take a look at this site for a fuller review of general tips
for Users to maintain a Windows XP operating system.

http://www.kvcomputers.com/maintenance.html

Pay special attention to the guidance on Windows Update listed in the
above link.

Ok ... one more note. Keep the anti-virus software updated ... check
for updates everyday. Try to make it an automatic function during the
middle of night. If you need help ... get help!

Good luck.

I have printed out your reply and will follow it to a capital T. I
understand all that you have said, and know how to do all that you
suggested.
..Thank you very much for your advice. I will also be hanging about this
newsgroup to learn.

Here is a site to help you decide if the files are needed
or not, many viruses create their own folders.

If it were a file I need to keep a computer program
running how
would I replace it?

Some files and folders are replaced when missing others
can be replaced by putting your XP cd in the drive and
typing sfc /scannow in the command prompt.Your system
will scan for missing files and if found will extract
them from your cd.

follow without a doubt.
