I need to take photo quality pictures from a computer workstation. I need to
find a camera that is always connected to the workstation then use the
workstation to view what the camera is seeing and take the picture from the
workstation. Any ideas. Thanks

You can do this with the Konica Minolta Dimage A1 or the newer A2. You will
need to purchase software from KM to control the camera from your computer,
about $100.00.
I have the A1 and very pleased with the computer control. The A2 is newer
but is about the same as the A1.
Both cameras are top notch, but a word of warning. Very good if you set the
ISO at 100. Too noisy for me at ISO 400. So I don't let the camera select
the ISO speed.
For a review, go to this site and also check the KM forum. Canon also has
some models to do this, but I don't remember them, this site probably has
them or check with the Canon forum.

I was told you could also do this with a digital camcorder. Does anyone know
if this is true, and if it is which would take better pictures, and which way
would be the easist and less costly. Or is there any other way like a CCD
camera to accomplish this. Thanks

What do you want to do, take stills or video. Stills are best accomplished
with a stills camera, video with a camcorder.
Camcorders can record direct to hdd and show up on the screen in real time
with the right software.

The answer is no. You cannot control the still camera features on a
camcorder for the simple reason that there is nothing to control. Even if
you could, for high quality still pictures, use a 5 MP still camera with
computer control capabilities and you will be fine..
