Quality loss when putting DV-AVI files together ?

Hi there,

My WMM is not very stable. When creating a video, I
therefore first create smaller separate parts of the final
movie. Something like every 3 minutes, I save my movie to
my computer in DV-AVI format (my source is a DV digital
camera). At the end I create a new project and concatenate
all parts to sent it back to my camera.

I am wondering if there is any loss of quality when doing
so.

I came to this question because of the following : when
taking a snapshot of the original captured video, I create
images of 768 x 576 pixels. However, when taking snapshots
in the project of my concatenation of movie parts, the
size of the images is much smaller....

Anyone has an idea on this one ?

Thanks Daan

Hi there,

If you take a snapshot of the video in the collections window, you will get
a picture that is equal too or less than 800 x 600, If you drag the same
piece of video to the time line and take a snapshot you will get a much
smaller picture. I have no idea why this occurs, but it is not a bug/fault,
so I am told.

I am not certain that I have those the right way around, so excuse me if I
have not.

Anyway, it simply means that you need to be careful where you obtain your
snapshot from.

Hi John,

Kind of right. Let me add a little.

To illustrate, I just imported a WMV source file with dimensions of 1504x980
pixels. I took a snapshot from one of the frames of the clip when it was in
the collection. The JPG image created is 1301x980. This is to align with the
source file but match my current 4:3 working ratio.

When I drag the video clio to the timeline and take a snapshot, the JPG is
320x240. This is aligned with the standard 320x240 working environment when
editing in MM2.
