Hi,
Just can't get around a visual C runtime error when
running Quake 3. Have formatted the drive, reinstalled XP
home, ands "only" quake 3.
Windows updates have been done
The game will run until I go online, then a few minutes
into the game it crashes.
I can run the game all day if not online. Actually I can
play much longer on sites that do not require punkbuster,
but no way it will go for any real length of time before
crashing. On sites with punkbuster, the crash is within a
minute or two.
Suspect punkbuster, but it updates itself automatically...
What should I be looking at?
This was not a problem with windows ME. Same hardware and
software...

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Check that link for a manual updaterand advice. Sometimes its the only way
to update PB.
Have you tried running on a non PB server with PB disabled ?

Visual C runtime error though.... could be a corrupted file in the installed
version of Quake you are running or might be in windows library files if
your unlucky, but unlikely as your game is only having problems online.

Some of the experts here will advice you on updating your drivers which
might also solve the problem if its not PB.
Update XP and drivers !

.
I had the exact problem. I backed off my Nvidia to the
45.23 driver then I set my sound to Low in Quake 3 and
entered a PB server. I waited for about 10 minutes and
the PB updated. Then I reset my sound to High and all was
well. I also used the PB site to update and it did not
help. Good luck I know it is a pain when it crashes but I
think PB is the problem or possibly my Audigy 2 card and
that is why I took the sound to Low.
