Quad Core Scheduling

Hi, I just moved to Vista with the purchase of a new Quad core (32 bit)
machine. The default OS is Home Premium. I was looking at the comparison
with Ultimate and one of the ticks Home Premium was missing was support
for high end processors (2 core/64 bit).

So my question, does Ultimate have improved scheduling for multicore
processors relative to Home Premium? Unfortunately i can find no
documentation on this.

All versions of Windows Vista support & utilize dual or quad core
processors equally well. However, only Vista Ultimate, Enterprise,
or Vista Business editions support two (2) "physical" processors.
A dual or quad core processor is actually one (1) physical processor.

Therefore, Windows Vista Home Premium does indeed support a single
dual or quad core processor.

Note: A motherboard would have to have two (2) CPU sockets in order
to support two (2) physical processors.

No, you are misreading it. Home Premium does not support multiple
*physical* processors. It does support multiple-core processors.


So my question, does Ultimate have improved scheduling for multicore
processors relative to Home Premium?

No. The support is the same.
