I just downloaded and tried Qimage. it didn't seem to offer anything you
can't get as freeware with a scanner or camera and it didn't work on my
machine. The directory device couldn't get down two levels to 'my pictures'
and it wouldn't open files. Instead it locked up and quit. It did this
twice; before and after re-booting my win2kpro machine with 45 GB available
memory on the HD. It did this with three formats: jpg; bmp and tif. Not a
useful item and one that seemed to install a bunch of adware and unwanted
freeware along with the main program.

I've been using Qimage for several years on a W2K system. It's real forte is
printing, which if you couldn't open an image, you couldn't test. Was it
set to display files names or thumbnails? If thumbs, it will first need to
generate thumbs of whatever directory you point it to. How large are your
image files? If large generating thumbs may take a while, but I run it on a
1.2Ghz Athlon and an 833 P3 with images up to 10-12 MB in size.

What adware and unwanted freeware are you talking about? I know of no such
things. When you run it the latest versions do query the DDI Software web
site for the latest version. If you pull down the Help => About menu you'll
see it tells you what your version is and what the current version is. You
can also dl and install the latest version from here as well.

If you want to give it a fair try and still have problems, let Mike Chaney
the author know. He will contact you, in a couple days at most. The support
Mike offers is well known to be far and above any standard most users are
used to.

Sorry to hear you and your machine are having problems running this
excellent software. I've been using it for about 2 years now and haven't
had such problems. You indicated are other software options available, let
us know what you finally settle on.

Qimage installs NO adware at all! However, such adware could very
well cause the problems you describe. Many of us have used Qimage for
years with no problems as you describe. Get Adaware or preferably
Spybot and clean your computer before installing Qimage. I think you
will find that Qimage is the best program of its type available. Good
luck!

I add my agreement to the above, although I must confess that Qimage
drives me nutty sometimes (trying to remember how I did something
before). When I get it right, it's brill. Not always user friendly
though, just complex.

No adware, that's come from elsewhere, I'g guess.

Some newsgroup contributors appear to have confused
the meaning of "discussion" with "digression".

I'm glad to hear all this and will give it another try. Maybe all the
adware and other unwanted crap came in from a web site.

I just tried again. Before that I ran spybot and got rid of all the adware
and registry entries for them. I got error messages trying to navigate a
directory that had jpg files in it and the program finally quit and wouldn't
reopen. Before I pursue this further, what do you mean its real forte is
printing? What does it do to enhance printing capability?

No offense, but you are downloading and installing an application and don't
know what it does? Suggest you take a look at
http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/feature.htm and then decide if it's a
tool you think you can use instead of just blindly dl'ing and installing.
If you have no use for it's capabilities, then why bother?

As far as I know, one of the big selling points is it's ability to arrange
multiple photos on one sheet, so you don't waste paper.
