I recently upgraded my database with just about all of the QFE's and had
nothing but problems. After some research I discovered that I had
mistakenly not applied the Q811279 (Repository lookup), now when I try to
apply the QFE I get this error saying that the QFE cannot be applied because
it does not have write privileges. All ideas are welcome.

Sean,

How did you apply the other QFE's (before you discovered that you had not
applied Q811279 first)? Did you just run the QFE exe and encounter an error
saying it was not able to import?

Lynda,
To make a tragic story short. I looked at the packages in the database and
did not see the 811279 but I was seeing all of the others. I thought that I
had goofed and not applied this qfe first. I then uninstalled all of the
qfe's and tried the apply the 811279. This would not install in the
database; I have a back up server that I have not applied any qfe's to and
so I applied the 811279 to it and it showed up as 328310 and this component
was consistent in both databases. I think the label in the database is not
correct. Check it out.

OK, first, when Q811279 is installed, you won't see a package for it -
that's because we can't and don't want to uninstall it, so there's no
package membership for it. You should notice that the Platform revision
has been incremented to 1900, and there is a new repository called
"Windows XP Embedded with SP1 QFE Repository" - that's your indication
that Q811279 is installed.

As for the 328310 package showing up, I'm betting it was already
installed before you checked the packages.
