I just applied some QFEs and now I am having difficulty building an image
that works. It appears that the physical devices are not being installed
correctly. For example, after FBA the image is resealed and then reboots; I
login as normal, but then I am prompted with a myriad of error boxes. I get
message boxes saying that the ports are not installed several times and then
I get a message box saying that the hard drive needs to be installed. When
I try to install the devices I can't, and when I just cancel through all of
the message boxes and prompts of installing the hardware the interface is
wacked out. The start bar is barley visible on the bottom of the screen and
when you click on the windows button the menu bar comes from the top left of
the screen. I am open to any suggestions

Do you get these same errors with a runtime without the QFE's? How did
you originally start your configuration (TAP, TA, manual)? Do you see
any of these errors before resealing the device? Are you resealing
manually or automatically?

Jon,
I had no errors before I applied the QFE's and I configured my device using
TAP. I applied the QFE's and then upgraded a current configuration that was
a good image. After the upgrade I uploaded the image and let it build out
on the device. The device looked like it normally does while building, and
when it was finished building it automatically released like it normally
does; when I tried to login there was nothing but problems. Subsequently,
I needed to have an image and right now, so I started from scratch and
compared a new build to my previous working (I used the build log as the
manifest for the new image); I added 3 or 4 components at a time and built
each image to verify what component(s) were making my image bomb-out. To
make a long story short I was not able to find what component was creating
the havoc. Additionally, I have applied all of my QFE's manually and was
wondering if the new QFE (824704) will do anything for me.

Thanks,

Sean

OK, so an upgraded config works just fine, but a brand new one doesn't?
Have you tried comparing the working image with the non-working one to
see what the difference might be? Not the build logs, but the actual
images? That should show files differences the build log compare
wouldn't.

If you were using the older version of Q824704, then you should grab the
new one we released yesterday. It fixes some problems the older version
had stepping on other QFE's.

Jon,
The image that had problems was created before I applied the QFE's (it was
working before I updated the database); this image no longer works. The
image that does work was created from scratch after the QFE's were applied
to the database. Additionally, I was aware that older Q824704 had some
issues and so I had applied all of the QFE's one-at-a-time. Since I have
applied the QFE's in this manner, is there any benefit in applying the new
Q824704.

When I get some time, I will look to see what the differences are in the
images.

It doesn't matter if you apply the QFE's one at a time or in bulk - the
QFE's are designed to work no matter the order they're added to the
database.

You should add the new version of Q824704, as the old version steps on
two previous QFE's. Because of this problem, the last QFE to be added
wins, so you'll either not get the full Q824704 package, or you'll break
Q328310 and Q814078.
