There is a message on the secure site when i try to download the QFE
Installer Tool:

"Due to an issue with the code, the Windows XP Embedded Desktop QFE
Installer Tool V1.0 was temporarily removed from the restricted access OEM
website. It is recommended that OEM Customers who downloaded the Installer
Tool between May 14-20, 2004, uninstall the Installer Tool and replace it
with the current version, now available on this website. If an OEM Customer
would like to incorporate the Installer Tool in their Windows XP Embedded
Images, it is recommended that they also download the associated QFE 842930."

How can i get the tool? How long has the tool be disabled? when will it be
back?? Surely the flaws that i need to patching on the deployed XPe systems
are stacking up in the mean time.

I invite suggestions of alternatives to patch without rebuilding the entire
base image? Seems our field systems are now exhibiting the side effects from
these vulnerabilities (e.g. "hacked") despite the fact they were built months
ago with the latest SP2 updates.

Hi Paul,

There is a download link at the bottom of the page. I don't want to link to
the OEM website here but just navigate to "Features and Updates" and follow
the link to the article that you referenced in your first post. The link is
at the bottom.

HTH,
Brad

I tried it a few more times following your instructions and still had the
same results.... until i realized i wasn't using IE. turns out the link
doesn't work when you use firefox.
