(The manual is here - download was pretty slow)

(QDI Advance 9 = Pentium3 FSB133, Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset, UDMA66
Southbridge VT82C596B)

"The Advance 9 mainboard supports up to 137GB harddisks, with
minimum BIOS version 1.7. Anyway: I would suggest to install
BIOS version 1.9 , since this is the latest BIOS version."

(The original poster probably forgot to remove the limit jumper
from the disk drive.)

"I have a new hard disk with capacity of 180 GB...

The BIOS of the mainboard will not support such a big harddisk.

If you want to use such a big harddisk on your aged mainboard,
then you have to buy an IDE ATA/133 controller. This IDE
controller has an own BIOS and it depends on the BIOS of
this PCI IDE controller, if you harddisk will be supported
or not."

If you buy one of these PCI IDE cards, you can use a bigger
hard drive. This card may perform a bit faster than the
motherboard IDE interfaces.

"PROMISE ULTRA133 TX2 PCI IDE Controller Card - OEM"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16816102007

Depending on the BIOS you are using, the motherboard supports
up to 137GB disk. For larger disks, buy and use the TX2 card.

Hope that helps,
Paul

Thank you a lot.
