QCad 2.0.0
by Andrew Mustun (http://freshmeat.net/~andrew23/)
Sunday, September 21st 2003 21:05

About:
QCad is a powerful but easy to use 2D CAD program for Linux, Windows, and
Mac OS X. It uses DXF as its standard file format. While other CAD
packages are often rather complicated to use, QCad tries to stay
comfortable, and even an absolute beginner can create professional
drawings with a minimum of effort.

Changes:
This release is a complete redesign. It features a new CAD engine, support
for grouping (blocks), ellipses, solid fills, a command console, and much
improved DXF compatibility.

Release focus: Major feature enhancements
License: GNU General Public License (GPL)
Project URL: http://freshmeat.net/projects/qcad/
Tar/GZ: http://freshmeat.net/redir/qcad/8613/url_tgz/qcad-2.0.0.0-1.src.tar.gz

Regards
Gordon

Hi Dick,
The Linux versions is called the "Community Edition". It's 15 Megabytes of
source code (when unpacked). I'm going to read through the source over the
weekend. Compile it and see what the limitations (if any) are. We shall
see :)

From the "Readme"

2 License
QCad is released under the GPL.

and

3.2 Installation from Sources (Community Edition)

Please note that the source distributions of QCad are intended for
developers and people who want to run QCad on a platform where no
binaries exist. If you're not in these two groups of people, please
consider downloading a binary instead.
Please understand that there's NO e-mail support for compiling and
running the QCad community edition.

I beleive the last Freeware or was it OpenSource version of QCad was v1.51
avaliable at the QCad website:

http://www.ribbonsoft.com/qcad.html

Downloads Section:
http://www.ribbonsoft.com/qcad_downloads.html

Older Version (Near the bottom of page):
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/qcad/

grab the following for Windows:
qcad_1_5_1.exe
qcad_1_5_1_doc_en.zip (en-English Language Manual, grab your choice)
qcad_1_5_1_library.zip
qcad_1_5_2_library.zip
qcad_1_5_3_library.zip

It installs and runs on Win XP, I hope this helps.

Yes, I have both Windows XP and Linux versions of 1.5.1. I am not interested
in time limited versions of anything.

What is the qt-developer edition? Is it the free one?

TIA,
