For a new system, which is better? They are both Quad processors. The
AMD is cheaper. Which one performs better?

Tomshardware might have some charts. I'm not sure about the test conditions
in all cases, and if there were issues running any of the tests, this chart
won't record that fact.

Other aspects to consider, are the cost of the motherboard necessary to run
each of the solutions, and also the size of the computer case needed to hold
the boards. And also their power consumption characteristics
(an FX-72 is 125 watts per socket). A Q6600 G0 stepping is 95 watts.

In terms of system infrastructure, I think Intel wins. The whole
computer would be smaller.

Asus list for FX-70/72/74 is rather short. Only L1N64-SLI WS qualifies as a "4x4".
(Maybe there is something in their server line, but this is the desktop list.)

Looks like a dual core processor to me.

You can get an AM2 based retail box CPU with similar specifications
(Athlon 64 X2 6000+) for about half the price at the same store.

FX-70/FX-72/FX-74 are intended for building a 4x4, which is a dual
socket, dual core computer. You can use only one socket if you want,
but you'd still have to find a socket 1207 motherboard for it. And
at 125W a socket, the box is bound to get warm. I guess it is about
the equivalent of using a couple dual core Opterons.

The other thing the motherboard in question gets you, is four
PCI Express video card slots. If you filled those with good video
cards, your computer would be as hot as an Easy Bake oven. It is such
an over the top hardware config, it is something you'd expect
Alienware to sell.

The user's network (USENET) is a huge collection of noncommercial
unmoderated forums for discussion of every topic known to man (and
woman). Many newsgroups like (comp.speech.users) are for users
discussing speech recognition and providing technical help to other
users.

Advertising a commercial web site in the speech-recognition group is
prohibited. Microphone sellers like Martin Markoe should show respect
(if that were possible) for other sellers and regular users of
speech-recognition by following the rules:

Otherwise, the malicious spammer Martin Markoe gets into a dispute

speech-recognition group frustrates other vendors and annoys
speech-recognition users.

Commercial web site operators are welcome to offer help, but we have
limitations on advertising here in technical help groups on the
unmoderated USENET in order to keep the discussion focused on users
