Go to www.abxzone.com and do a search on "P4S8X problems". If you
put a 3.06GHz processor in there, chances are you will have
problems. Better to start with another board, if you are going
for a more expensive processor.

As far as I know, some changes to the Vcore circuit on the P4S8X-X
may have helped the Vcore circuit. Asus added a whole bunch of
"stitching vias" to the copper planes on the board, to try to
make the conductors more solid, with less voltage drop and noise.
But I still wouldn't buy a P4S8X-X, try another board and just
stay away from that family. There are plenty of 875/865 boards
now, and there are configurations for every budget. On Newegg,
the highest price is for the Gigabyte GA-8KNXP Ultra (875P)
at $355 US and the lowest is the Albatron Model Px865PE PRO
at $79 US. Search for "875p" or "865pe" at your favorite retailer.

Yeah... I have this board, and the way that Asus almost immediately
dropped support (no new BIOS, no new drivers) and the ridiculous
instability of the audio drivers under XP has convinced me that when I
upgrade, there won't be anything Asus label in my box! And the whole
point of the board was to get one that'd support fast future P4s...
