I am helping a friend. He is on XP and using Outlook. The "About"
section says "2003 11.8313.8221 sp3".

He had an contacts folder named "contacts'. He created another foldr
called "contacts 1".

How does he make the new folder (contacts 1) the default?

When he starts typing a name in the "TO:" lines of emails, Outlook
still picks up emails from the older "contacts" folder.

Thanks!

You can't make another Contacts Folder the default. Nor do you need to. You
can easily select a different Contacts Folder as the one to show first in
the address book view in Tools > Options in the address book view.

Hello Russ:

Thanks for responding. I tried changing the default before using what
you suggested. I looked at it one more time after your response.

I am remotely connected to my friend's computer now and visually
"Contacts 1" is showing up at the top.

However, Outllok is still picking up values from the old "contacts". I
find nothing under the tools > options to change this behavior. When I
start a new mail message and click the "To", it shows the "Select
names" popup, and displays the "Show names from" folder as
"contacts".

I can manually change this to "contacts 1", but this is good for this
particular new message.

Anyone out there who may know how to rectify this situation?

Thanks

Settings for which folder is checked first is in the same place. Make sure
you restart Outlook after you change a setting.

Well, I could not find anything there to set the "Contacts 1" as the
default.

However, I did the following which seems to resolve the issue:

Clicked on the folder properties. Chose the "Outlook Address Book"
tab. Unchecked "Show this folder as an e-mail address book".

Now when I press the "To:" on a new email, "Contacts 1" appears.

You can't see the box titled "When sending mail, check names using these
address lists in the following order"? That's all you had to set. If a hit
is found in "Contacts 1" other folders will not be checked.
