Jan, I admit I'm not really fluent in programmer jargon. To me
"final" means Python development is at an end.

Or do you just mean "2.3.4 final" supercedes "2.3.4 interim"?

Final, as opposed to interim, beta, alpha, releae candidates, etc.

Python is not at an end, but Python version 2.3.4 is "finished". It has
been tested during the last 2 weeks and is now declared ready to be used.

Thanks for the reassurance, Jan.

I must say I find these multi-level version numbers rather curious.
Is there any logic in the system?

To me, version 2.3.4 sounds like a work in progress -- heading towards
version 3 or perhaps even 2.4 -- so when you said "2.3.4 final" I was
inclined to think the whole project had ground to a halt. :-)

Cheers, Phred.

Well at least it's a good attempt. ;-)

Let's see. From that I assume the next version after "2.3.4 final"
will be something like "2.3.5a0"?

Maybe, if there is a need for it.

They are now working on 2.4a0 too.
